I have both, but prefer Lightroom, though I use Aperture because I can shoot tethered with my old 5D mk1. Can't do that any other way!

As someone else mentioned, what about Capture One? Every pro photographer I bump into seems to prefer it.

Though for me the Adobe connection is a bit of a killer 'feature'.

Lightroom is the better choice as long as it is available without "cloud" interference.
If that should happen, drop Adobe altogether!

Lightroom - it integrates seamlessly with Photoshop and lots of plugins, and it's cross platform compatible, so I can work on the same library on my Win laptop and desktop, as well as the mac at work

I have only used Lightroom, and really like it. It does a great job of organizing images and making nice edits to an extent. It also integrates with Photoshop when you get further involved into learning the programs. If you decide to go the Lightroom route, youtube offers several tutorial videos that really give you a more detailed view of the massive amount of functions and features the program has to offer! Happy Editing!

    Lightroom

For the $$ and the ease of use. LR really is my go to software for my personal photos

I remember comparing the VSCO plugins for Lightroom and Aperture and while I think I liked the look of the Aperture versions better, I'd still have to say Lightroom wins between the two programs themselves

lightroom for its integration with adobe suite

I haven't tried Aperture but Lightroom has amazing features for streamlining work and the Vsco Film filters are awesome.

I've had limited experience with Aperture, but Lightroom is the way to go for me (combined with PhotoMechanic for initial ingestion and captioning).
