I tend to go with the avoid-lyrics theory so often something like Explosions in the Sky station on Pandora. Also have to support fellow designer Tycho (:

It depends on subject I am working on. When it is more creative task, I am listening from ambient genres, classical music to different electronic music genres. On other side, when task requires just mechanic work, like masking for example, I can listen anything, even stand ups or podcasts etc.

    Some of my favourite artists:
Lorn, Cuthead, Broken Note, Aphex Twin, Amon Tobin, Bonobo, Prospect Recordings, Ophidian, Krafty Kuts, DJ Vadim, Antwon,,

I tend to listen to things that put me in an upbeat and happy mood, which for me means Coheed and Cambria or grunge like Nirvana, STP, Bush, Smashing Pumpkins etc. I used to listen to the grunge stuff in the art lab in high school so I guess it puts me in the creative mode.

I thank god for spotify... That way i can pick one record and let spotify create a playlist based on that track.

While designing i prefer happy pop music... When coding i like to listen to dubstep, drum & bass of even jump music...

If it's something that doesn't require much thinking I'll put on some youtube comedy channels, or if I need to relax classical provides a nice environment.

Regularly I would listen stuff like Kate Nash, Lily Allen, Blondie, etc.

Actually, it all depends on the type of design I'm doing and what mood I'm in. If I want something without lyrics, I like Adrian von Ziegler's work. I found his stuff via YouTube several months ago and really liked it. I also like listening to certain movie scores. If I want lyrics then I'm really all over the map; 30 Seconds to Mars, Lana Del Rey, The Birthday Massacre, Daft Punk, and even quite a bit of pop.

typically I put on a genre that reflects what I am working on. I do a lot of wedding stationery designs so most often my music of choice is classical music (specifically Sergei Rachmaninoff).

The genre just takes me to a place of formality and a time gone by when everything was made by a specialist instead of people who have Microsoft Word and a "fancy" clip-art library. It reminds me that what I do is not something everyone and their mother can really do.

I like to listen to genres that suit the mood of what I'm making as well. Or listening to the band who's logo I'm working on etc.
