I used Basecamp, and more recently TeamworkPM (both online, subscription-based).

I've been using "Astrid", it's pretty good and accessed via a website so you can access it anywhere/anytime. It is also on Android/Apple as an app

I use Google Calendar mostly, but as somebody said before, Wunderlist is a really good option as well. They have a web version as well as desktop software and mobile apps.

If you use Thunderbird as your mail client, I suggest you to use the "Lightning" Plugin.
This way you can send, receive and accept invitations via email in a standard conform way (compatible with Microsoft Exchange) at no cost...

I use Wunderlist. Things is another good program if you don't want an online program. iProcrastinate is another ok program. I like Wunderlist best!

Google added a function to their mail system which allows you to do this, so I'm using that now.

I use pivotalTracker.com, but it can be a bit of an overkill depending on your requirements. It's a project management platform that makes it easier for teams to work.
