How low can I run the ink on my designjet before changing???

Ive just bought a designjet 5500 and a few of the cartridges are 'low' with one being 'very low'.

Im just wondering how far I can run them down without causing problems....the very low one still has what seems like a fair bit in it by looking at the little bar, but could this be innacurate???

Ive been reading little horror stories about running these dry and having to bleed the tubes and all sorts.

So just wondering if people generally wait until the bar has only a tiny slither left before changing or change well in advance....like when its just flicked from low to very low?

    Regards,

    Phil.

The ink cartridges has chips that will prevent them to totally become empty.
After 2-3 ml the cartridge will be flagged as empty and you will not be
able to print unless you replace the cartridge.

Is it true that there are Epson printers that consider a cartridge empty when it is really empty?

I take them out of my 5500 when they reach 1%. I replace them with sam*ink, it's really a lot cheaper, and sop far just as good!
