I am exactly in the same boat - interested in software. On some Russian forum I saw thread about 3880 if I remember correctly, but there was also lack of deeper information on subject.

ImagePrint 9 is out now...definitely worth it - will support your 3800/3880

Imageprint 9 is out now (has been for about a year I think). We finally upgraded to it, and it's really pretty great! One nice feature they added is that, while they've always provided 5 different lighting profiles for every paper from every manufacturer in the industry - for free - it used to be you'd have to navigate through a horrible FTP site to try and find them, and it was really time consuming........but now they are automatically downloaded and you just choose the name of the mfg and the paper type - in plain english, and it downloads it for you. Plus their grayscale profiles are the best I've ever seen...they bypass the Epson driver (basically by taking control of the print engine directly) so you don't get the driver interfering and giving you bad bw prints...
