    Hello from Canada

    Greetings from Canada.

It's been ages since I started at a new board. I hope I'll settle in here as it does look like it fits in perfectly with my interests.

I edit/convert fonts and am well known on some other sites. If any here is having problems with OpenType (either otf or (ot)ttf) fonts, give me a shout. I'm always happy to help in that area. If you're creating a new font and need help with the technical aspects give me a shout about that too...I'll be happy to help.

In the winter? I'd be moving south or to Arizona or... Can you tell? Not all Canadians love to snowshoe and dogsled.

Georgetown...nice area. Been there a couple of times and liked it. Too bad you share the same climate as us east of Toronto...

I'll probably get in touch with you soon, regarding creating a font and the issues that might follow

No problem. I use FontLab and I'm pretty familiar with Glyphs. If you use a different app. I can talk you through the tech aspects of otf (ot)ttf fonts, just not exactly how to accomplish them in another program.

    Nice profession

    to working with fonts....

I have improved many fonts in ttf format, but more than 10 years ago. To use in Central Europe, They have many special characters. Have you got any experinences with kerning, and hinting?? :)) Composite characters? Accents, Umlauts....

Kerning...the only reliable method I've found is using the Human Eye v1.0. Very time consuming and something I try to avoid at all costs...unless it's for a font I've created myself. I know there's a service online that will do a pretty good job of kerning...the name escapes me, but I can look it up for you if you have an interest. I'm not sure what they charge as I've never used them. There's also a new "app" that just came out that works in conjunction with FontLab/Python, but I tried reading the docs for it and my old noggin just couldn't wrap itself around the technical jargon.

I have no understanding of Cyrillic, so I don't touch that.

Composite characters...being English speaking I have no call to use extended accented characters, but creating accented/composite characters is a basic skill in using a font editor. It's really just a matter of deciding which s you want to include in your font.
