    try fontlab 5.

fontlab bought macromedia fontographer, updated with some new features and released under name 'Fontlab Studio.' although Fontographer still exists.

    Hi meetpaltu1,
I use both Fontlab and Fontographer 5 for windows. To a user of Fontographer, Fontlab is kind of complex, I had been waiting for a long time for version 5 because version 4 would not do otf. Thankfully Fontographer version 5 for windows is finally here

    just a silly question.
do u like/use Macromedia Freehand very much ?

(as i think fontographer inherits most of the editing capabilities from Freehand)

LL, yes I used Freehand on and off, preferred Corel though. However, I was using Fontographer before I even used Freehand to make special fonts for our cllients, we were heavy on PageMaker and Ventura Publisher around 1990. You would not believe how terrible fonts were at the time, especially when you have non square resolution ie. 1000x400 to work with. We had to touch up existing ones and give proper hinting etc. We also had to make the pronunciation font used for dictionary.

oh ! quite an experience ( i think a very long working time !)
thanks god, i have started in better days, with Freehand 5 with Mac LC 475 and PowerMac. and now Adobe cs 5.5 with Lion 10.7.2 and Snow Leopard 10.6.8, with almost 50K fonts managed by Linotype Fontexplorer.

    what a transition

Well, those were the days I ran a typesetting business. Moved around within the industry and currently work as Amsky CTCP technical advisor.

I'm an old freehand user, loved it much more than illustrator.

First time I saw it wan on a really crappy mac we had at college, one of the first DTP systems. This was at Lobndon College of Printing in elephant and Castle a couple of years after Neville Brody was a student there, so he missed all the fun :)
