    I find that a good rule of thumb is to use typefaces from the same general time period while trying to mix contrasting styles. i.e. a sans serif+slab serif, a script+serif etc.

    There is no rule of thumb when combining fonts, but I always try to put some contrast in my fonts of choice.

    I like using one script font and 1-2 simple sans serif font. Articles, conjunctions, and prepositions are often done in smaller, simpler, sans serif font and the main title, name or information is done in the script. I just find that the script font is typically what the viewer sees first so to me, it's important that they see the most important part first.

    My favorite recent combination is DIN Round and Tungsten Rounded. They’re not a likely pairing but they look amazing together.
