I am not sure if there is a best font for a company letterhead, It depends on so many things like letter count, word count, type of company etc, I can't imagine something appropriate of inappropriate to use categorically.

It really all depends on what your logo looks like. The feel of your company/brand.

Futura is good if it needs to have a friendlyness to it yet still somewhat feminine. Gotham stays friendly and gets a little more masculine. Lineto Akkurat is similar to helvetica but is a little more characteristic and less popular, reduces well.

DIN Next is another good one and Univers next has a large variety of weights to work with.

    Vague subject.

Brandon Grotesque gets my vote. And I would like to rant on Futura. I remember how my first big job, a designer decided to go for Futura font for a big project. It was actually Futura STD, it was awful when printing copies, and a overall mess. I wished the work computers had a true copy of it since the company was too cheap to let us buy fonts...
