I think it depends on what the company is about, if it's for children or something.

    Keep in mind

One thing to keep in mind when working on a logo design.

Do not let the colors dictate the look of the logo, a good logo should work in black and white first and foremost. Colors depending on the industry and look you are going for. So often logos later get used on letterheads, receipts etc. Where they are printed off on photocopiers, or just greyscale.

Just something to think about when coming up with the design.

my fave is to browse pinterest and tumblr, if i find interesting colour combos in an image i like i will then copy and paste them into photoshop and just use the good ol fashion eyedropper tool to build up the theme/pallete for my new logo

Most important thing is to not go overboard with colors in a company logo, IMHO.

    Choosing Best Logo color

harmony color palette (colorlover.com and many more) is not same thing as choosing logo color, there is general rule for choosing color for business specific logo because logo generate some sense or feeling that directly relate with colors.

for more deeper/ sophisticated approach you can explore more on feng shui baqua color guide. Hope this help.

More than color I find that contrast is super important. When I start getting fussy and restless I find myself falling back to good ol' black & white.

    Simplicity is key

Be simple! This is something I apply to every area in my life, including design. I think simple, streamlined logos are classy and tend to give the viewer a positive first impression. If using color, make sure you aren't overdoing it or letting things look cluttered because that can give off the wrong vibe. I believe you can use a bright color but it has to be done right- pairing it with an appropriate neutral almost always works.

It depends of the activity of the company.
A company which works in ecology will have a green logo, it's logic, blue for water company, etc... Colors always have a signification :)
