At this year's Ipex in Birmingham, UK, Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) announced that it is replacing the well-known LinoColor scan and repro software with the new NewColor 7000. The solution provider for the entire print and media industry is introducing a MacOS X version of its high-end scan software first launched at Drupa 2000, bringing the benefits of 16-bit processing to the Mac platform for the first time.
Full Java implementation now makes NewColor 7000 version 2.5 available to Macintosh users too and enhances the quality of corrections and processing on the creative side of the prepress. NewColor was first introduced for PC at Drupa 2000. The Macintosh version replaces the well-known LinoColor scan solution which only allows 8-bit processing. As well as porting to Mac, the former NewColor PC version now also supports additional CMYK corrections and features such as use of the right mouse button for Mac.
DOIT and ColorStation increase efficiency
The new 16-bit processing feature also makes the DOIT concept (Digital Original Image Technology) accessible to Mac users. DOIT is based on Heidelberg's ROOM concept (Rip Once Output Many) from the workflow sector - the original is scanned just once, then the stored source data is used to generate required image data with corrections.
This further increases the productivity of a Nexscan or Primescan. Scanning is performed at maximum resolution and 16-bit source data can be stored, for example, uncorrected in LAB on the server or in an image database. When the image data is needed for a job, the data is prepared at a workstation with NewColor 7000 ColorStation, another new product. This way of working is ideal for jobs where digital data from all sorts of different sources needs to be processed and mapped to one printing standard, e.g. in newspaper editorial offices. One of its advantages is an increase in productivity thanks to image processing not being slowed down by scanning procedures.
NewColor 7000 ColorStation is being launched on the market in conjunction with the new NewColor 7000 and, because it does not need a scanner connection, boasts a very attractive price/performance ratio.
