It's difficult to answer correctly. Halerquin is fine but PSM is stable. It depends on you and your target.

If you connect imagesetter to PC, then Xitron is an option.
I prefer PS/M 8 because it is less limited in some fields then Harlequin. Especially if you plan to work as a client service (producing film as a service to others, not for inhouse usage).

PSM 7 requires OS9 and is an option if you have to work with SFL connection. If you have TSP connection, you need version 8 and OSX. PSM7 can not work on OSX.

OK, but which card is connecting computer to imagesetter? Is connected via two fiber optic cables or via pretty thick copper cable? Optic cable is about 10 x 5 mm and easily bends, there are two round output connectors on the card. Copper cable is about 10 - 15 mm in diameter and harder to bend and has one big connector with a lot of pins.
If you have something that works, why do you want to change? PSM 7 and 8 are old programs that have problems with transparencies and PDF, but with adequate postscript are very good since they have only one expose calibration for all colors and are easily set each time for different job. With Harlequin you have to set all before ripping but you can see actual raster dots. PSM allows to make changes just before imaging and preview is horrible with no rasters viewable. I use combination of two, mostly PSM 8.

I agree, Brisque is the best. Two problems: too old hardware and no K. I got this information from service people: Brisque series 4 is the best for imagesetters, while Brisque series 5 is the best for platesetters.
Hardware is very limited to Scitex/IBM RISC machines up to 600 MHz, if I remember correctly. It is very expensive and pretty slow.
PDF and transparencies can be a big problem for this RIP.
    Does anybody have Brisque K'ed?
