Rip for Epson 9800 Pro

Hi guys hope you can help

Been using Versaworks for a little while (got an sp540) which i get on great with. For the last couple of years I've been running my Epson 9800pro just through the Epson drivers, but since using versaworks it's becoming more frustrating.

Just looking for recommendations for a rip program primarily for layout purposes but wouldn't mind good color management too.

Any ideas (would rather a cracked version)

Thanks

Why use rip? Use original printer driver can do it.

yes, the drivers that come with the 9800 will work but an actual RIP would significantly improve color management and layout functionality. Wasatch is a good basic RIP that allows for CMYK and color management based on input types.

i worked with numerous RIPs and to be able to improve the gamut and coloraccuracy of the today printdrivers you need to become an expert which takes month and rolls and cartridges.. if achievable!

for proofing you NEED a rip.

for printing and layout i highly recomend to use qimage. it got all the layouting like a RIP, screening methods.. but uses the perfect printer drivers!

Hi Jess,
It is difficult to find free rip/driver stated specifically for 1390, but I believe driver for 1400 is most of the time usable. For general printing you have many options such as Black Five Imaging Photoprint, WinGP (Gutenprint), Ghostscript, QuadtoneRip (QTR), and many others.
However, it is a different story for printing film positives or DTG printing.

For an Epson 9800 I doubt you could do better than ImagePrint, especially for layout.

Never seen a crack though - I bought it.

Forgot to mention, with an Epson printer, ImagePrint will save you a ton of ink (and time) with its "Phatte Black" feature (look it up). And you can print to TIFF file from InDesign, Illustrator etc. (not possible any other way, as far as I know).
