Onyx RIP 10.0 problems with Epson stylus pro 4900

    Hi,

I am new guy in this forum, but it seems that is friendly comunity :)

OK. About my problem. I installed Onyx ProductionHouse X 10.0.0.89. it installs corectly. i downloaded ver. 10 printer drivers via "Profile Download Client" after it i configure my printer, program successfuly initialize it, green button lights and it seemed all OK. After all paper, profiles and over optinions i tried to import some pictures and print. Rip successfuly rip'ed images and wrote, that i can print images. i pushed print button and got error message Error - Cannot Start Print. I tried installed drivers, change paper settings and over few times. I tried Windows xp (now i am using windows 8) no luck
    Any ideas about this error?

p.s. Sorry for my english skills

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I'm having the exact same issue with an Epson Stylus 9800. ProductionHouse 10.0.0.89 installs fine, the patches work fine, download of the x10 Epson 9800 drivers work fine, and everything looks as it should within Onyx. I still get the "Cannot Start Print" every single time.

I've reinstalled Onyx on the same computer, installed it on a different computer, tried the x10, x10.1, x10.2 print drivers, and have tried every option for the port. I understand port should be escp2, but I tried them all to make sure. The IP is good, and I can print to the printer via IP from the native Epson drivers.

I'm just not sure what else to try. Does any have any thoughts?

It's not something stupid like a crossover cable?

I had that issue once on my flatbed, took me hours to figure it out!

I wish it was something like a crossover cable! :-)

No, the printer prints just fine using the stock Epson drivers through TCP/IP. It's just the Onyx RIP that seems to be having communications issues. Is there anything other than net work communication issues that can cause the "Cannot start print" error?

It's sounds like a communication error as you say.

I have been out of ONYX for a while, do you have a spare nerk card you could try it on, give it its own IP range/dedicated NiC

    And the plot thickens!

I get the exact same issue if I connect to the printer via USB. I removed the TCP/IP printer driver from Onyx, added the 9800 back but set it us via USB this time around. The issue is still there - jobs immediately fail with a "Cannot Start Print" error.

Keep in mind that the printer works fine via TCP/IP and via USB if I just use the Epson print driver. In other words, I can print from Photoshop or QuarkXpress just fine. It's only when I try to print through Onyx RIP that I have this trouble.

Based on what I've seen so far, there is nothing wrong with the printer, the net work, or the Epson print drivers. It is something within Onyx that is causing this.

Is it possible for this error to be caused by something other than communication issues?

For some reason, I can't seem to spell the word "n e t w o r k" on this forum. LOL. If I type it out, it comes out as: nerk.

    File > Manage printers > Epson 9800 > Configure > Device > Config port >TCPIP > Configure

What have you selected in the Data type or Port name dropdown?
when clicking test is green letters saying "Valid IP Address found"?

I had the same issue, the problem was that I had different IP address setup in the printer.
    Also try completly reinstalling drivers

I actually found the fix on an old post here on the forum. Just in case any else runs into this, I'll post it again for safekeeping:

    1) Install Onyx with "Install.exe".
    2) Once installed, go into "!!!Licence!!!" folder.
    3) Replace Onyx install files (C:\ProgramFiles\etc) with files inside License folder.
    4) Run "p.exe" to patch files.
    5) Install the download manager to get the printer installation files.
    6) Once downloaded, install the printer files.
    7) Download and install all Onyx patches for 10.0 from the Onyx website.
    8) Reboot computer.
    9) Replace Onyx install files AGAIN (see #3 above).
    10) Run p.exe again.
    10) Reboot.

This made it all work perfectly. Without the patches in place, I got the "Cannot Start Print" error. With the patches it works with a white line (demo) through the print. With the patches and the "p.exe" executed again and then reboot, all works as it should.

    7) Download and install all Onyx patches for 10.0 from the Onyx website.
