    Thumbs down Illustrator Bug

When i use Adobe Illustrator 5 to step and repeat and I am changing keyboard increments in the preferences and I am repeating a gaps that are not common " for example I have a 2.5 x 2.5 inch circle that has gap spacing around .166666 and I use the keyboard prefences and change that setting to 2.666666 and copy and move using this it is not exact" I found that if you use the transform option to step and repeat that this is exact. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this issue?

Suggestion for exact movement of the objects in the illustrator cs5

1- First you draw an object like Rectangle/Circle
2- Copy the size from the width side then press (Ctrl+K) you see the Preferences dialogue box appear on the screen on the general tab paste the value in the "Keyboard increment" field then click OK.
3- Select the object and hold down the ALT Key then press the Arrow Key from the keyboard. if you want to move object from left side then PRESS Left Arrow or move the right side then PRESS Right Arrow.
4- if you want to specific GAP between the objects you can add the value in the "Keyboard increment" field. (Size of object + GAP) Hold down the ALT then press Arrow Key Repeat this process many times as often as you want for (step & repeat).
5- Now you can step & repeat the objects top/bottom side easily for above mentioned method.

i hope this is the answer of this question.....

Is your document setup to align to pixel grid? This may cause objects to snap to points.

Or maybe it rounds off the increments to less decimal places?

AI CS2 seem to have this problem, and now with CS5 does not seem to encounter, I also like to press the Alt key to move the copy

It can be, but, like Photoshop or InDesign, it is a very powerful software with tools/features I periodically discover for the first time, even after years of use! Perhaps it is because of this that I find Corel and others less intuitive.

It does seem like a rounding issue.

Another way to do step and repeat is to set up a move and then repeat it. To do this you turn on smart guides, then make a box the size of the required movement, then hold shift and drag this box in the desired direction by it's own width or height (so that one edge snaps to the place previously occupied by the other edge), then do a repeat transform (command D), you should be fine...

You should also be able to use the align / distribute tools on your original method to make sure that the spacing is exact.
