    absolute nonsense. the pw caldera is standard for installation and admin stuff und with the licmanager you can manage your lics …therefore you need a lic.

    I have a few caldera licenses, all come with dongles.
    Happy to help with some information.

    All my licenses are for copyrip to run on linux.

    Let me know if this helps.

    I am wondering whether license key is sufficient to run Caldera, or you also have to have a dongle. Could somebody who owns it clarify?

    Yes, you normally need a dongle to run caldera software.
    But I think that you can run this software without a dongle as well.

    When you load the software for the first time it is setup in a demo mode which puts "Caldera" on all the printouts.
    You can request a demo key, which is normally set to about 14days.
    This key runs without a dongle.

    I have also seen a key that was used by a reseller, that was a software only key.

    Hope this helps....

    Interesting information. Is there anybody who has a demo key and willing to share it?

    I may have some from a few years ago, will have to look...
    When I was testing the rip, I got a software key, it was for version 8 - Linux.
    You may be able to change the date and time settings to get it to work.

    I will also see if a can get a new one from caldera, it will be for version 9 - Linux.
    They can be a bit difficult with their keys sometimes, I will try...

    Ok, I have found a demo key for Caldera 8...

    The problems are;
    The key is locked to a mac address.
    The Key is out of date, as most demo keys only last a few weeks.
    The key dose not have the full options.

    The good news is;
    I was able to get it to work using "Oracle VM VirtualBox"
    With VirtualBox you can set the mac address in the network settings.
    I then changed the date in the system bios to 1st Dec 2010
    This is needed because you can't install caldera before it's build date.
    Turned of linux time settings, not to update system time via internet time server.
    And we have a working version of Caldera 8...
    At least until the computer date of May 2011, 6 months...

    Currently all my tests have been using a windows 7 base system running "Oracle VM VirtualBox" and then a debian linux 64bit virtual machine.

    I want to do a few more tests, and look at how the keys work...
    Also have a version 9 key that was used by a service tech that requires a dongle, but it has all the options listed in the key code...

    Will post more info and keys soon...

    Hi robson,

    If you send me a PM, I can email you a V9 tech key.
    This key needs a dongle, but has all the caldera options listed.
    I don't want to make this key public, as it may get my tech in trouble...
