My colleagues often use InDesign and its "Place" command for imposing pdf pages...
But not for too serious work...

I saw signastation works, but to many details, pdfimp is more simple to use.

As you say too many details but more of a control. There is no thing you can do with Signa Station.

    Thumbs up inPO2 4.0

I use inPO2 - in my opinion is the most intuitive and intelligent product for imposition. The development of this product is very easy. Use does not cause problems. There are detailed instructions on the manufacturer's website. I take 4 years:)

    Signastation

before 2003 year i try many different program such as farukh imposer, Krause Imposition Manager, some extension and plugin for acrobat, Preps...but when i try Signastation with its simplicity, the possibilities offered and reliability it is my favorite and number one program for imposing. Signastation 3.0 is fast and simple program, Prinect Signastation is more gallant and fancy but have some possibilities like sheet in sheet and sheet over, group montage, different size in same book....

it've been difficult for me to work with job include different size in same book seen i started in pressroom. but now with Signastation and Preps 6 very, very easy to creat, modify, preview imposition.

Maybe you did't see book with something like map inside, you need to unwind, or double page size that can be opened separately and see something inside, such as catalog, magazine, advertising book. Problem in that montage is in the page numbering, before prinect signastation, when the sewing this page with the rest of the book or the pages inserted in them other format and sewing together.
Of course, these are unusual way of montage, but designer's freedom is to decide how all this will be look and our problem is to realize this.

    regards

inpo2 or preps are high end imposition software for the standard printing industry, Quite impose 2 or 3 is good for quick and small job mainly using in the digital and copy shop.

Then i switched to preps 5.3 and i like it a lot. I tried to work with preps 6.1 but it is completelly different from 5.3 so i returned back to 5.3.
I want to try Heidelberg's Signa station as i have heard great things about it.
