I think the most serious problem is font.
I have problem when export to pdf (Use Acrobat).
It always have missing letter.
One of the biggest strengths of Pitstop is Font manipulation. Using the inspector you can change for embedded subset to embed complete font ( you need to have the font installed) then you can edit anything you like.
I use the save to PDF feature direct from PowerPoint 2010. Seems to work 90% of the time for once off print runs. Sometimes I have to apply fix-ups, especially the flatten transparency option.
Try third-party application?

File > save as pdf??
I'd do this:
Office 2007 + Acrobat Pro
first - check fonts (add or replace in the system)
second - setting job options
It doesn't fixes everything, but most of it
