    Convering files to pdf

I need to build a workflow, and my RIP is using pdf-files. But incoming files is often in .cdr format (and sometimes .ai). Now i need to open files in Corel(Illustrator), save it to pdf and then send to the RIP.
Can i use any program to convert files? It would be good if i can install it to the server and use some kind of "Hot Folder" to convert files. And files sometimes has transparency and other effects. :)

You can create PDF directly from Corel or Illustrator
And Corel makes good PDF (can preserve RGB, overprints, transparancy and other effects) - dont need to convert

I think he does not want to open corel or AI each time to convert the pdf file?

    Or do you?

RGB, transparancy and other effects not desirable for use in Offset Printing. *.ps or *.pdf files are obtained is not correct.
You need convert RGB-CMYK in Corel. Transparancy and other effects - converted to hi res bitmap.

To do this the CorelDraw X5 brings a PDF publishing option, simply use it and send the file converted to the Apogee Hotfolder

To do this i need to run CorelDraw and publish. I don't want it. I want send cdr-file "as is" to the HotFolder and convert it automatically... I found a program called PDFCreator. Now trying to understood how it works :)

The best way is to directly generate your pdf's of each program, noting the limitations of their conversion to rip transparencies and other things

Download the coreldraw x5 sp3, since this does not take long and is truly amazing what you can do

The best way IS to make the pdf files directly from the apps..

I would suggest asking the customer to make them, it is only one extra step, then that saves you the hassle of potential font differences and reflow etc.

I can't speak for corel draw, but from Illustrator it really is as simple as selecting save as pdf and using the press quality setting enable crop marks and bleed. I would imagine Corel is as simple.

As i know esko backstage can use PS and PDF incoming files. Do you make them direct from the software? And which one?

Photoshop has this Automate function after you have recorded your action once. You can use this to help you create PDFs from Photoshop.
