Adobe PDF-Print-Engine experiences

Hi guys,

have you any experiences with the PDF-Print-Engine? Is it save to work with PDF-transparencies? I heard that real Postscript-elements like colorbars don't work. Is that right?

Best regards

Adobe PDF-Print-Engine :
Native PDF and live transparency rendering with no flattening.
Streamline the production of complex PDF artwork.

Thanx for your response. Do you have no problems with Postscript-elements like colorbars or platecontrolstrips?

It depends on the controlstrip and your needs. If there is some PostScript code in the file (e.g. for requesting the printer resolution or screening info) these elements are not rendered correctly.

If you only want to show some color patches this will still work.

Best way is to convert the PS strips to PDF before imposition.

FounderEAGLE RIP 4 pdf from 1.4v to 1.7v.
No problems with transparency, spots etc.
90% of errors is wrong photoshop mask-transparency object in Indesign --> pdf.
Preflight before with PitStop/Acrobat 9pro is good advice. ;)

No it is based on Founder's own Postscript interpreter EAGLE RIP, but i'm not 100% sure.
In my opinnion is the best cost/performance choice.

We are using PDF-PE in MetaDimension 7.5 for all jobs. Almost no problems in this version.

hi,

i think it's depending on what kind of pdf/x version is the pdf because pdf/x-1a is not supporting the transparency so it's flattening, pdf/x-4 could handling the transparency...

here is a little info:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PDF/X

so i guess if the pdfs are pdf/x-4 or pdf/x-5 the adobe print engine will handling the transparency...
