ProfileMaker 5 -- Printer Profiling help

Just to start, I'm not completely sure on how to fully use the ProfileMaker software suite, but I've tried my best.

I have an Epson 4880 and Epson 9890. Both printers use 8 color CMYK + LLs. Same ink and same paper media.

Previously some created a ICC profile using ProfileMaker 5 for the Epson 4880 and my current problem is that I'm trying to print with the Epson 9890 while reproducing the same colors.

I created a ICC profile for the 9890 with ProfileMaker 5 by creating a testchart based off the 4880 ICC and a brand new from scratch. But once I test print my images off the 9890 using the new ICCs, the colors are just slightly off. But based on a 3D Lab graph the 4880 ICC ranges for L(10-90) while the 9890 ICC ranges for L(25-85).

Hopefully, I've explained the problem well enough, but I appreciate any help I could get. Thanks.

Did you linearize the printers before color profiling?

I'm a complete beginner at using this. But how do I exactly linearize the printers? Am I able to linearize using the ProfileMaker5 suite?

You can use i1Profiler to make a linearize color test chart and export it for Profilemaker. Also if you are using Epson RGB OEM driver make sure to disable all automatic color processings such as auto contrast, auto color balance during printing so it won't modify the color values in the original file.

Are there any other software besides i1Profiler that I could use for linearization and still use ProfileMaker 5? Thanks
