I had a problem with Spider in the past.

The place I work today has a XRITE EyeOne Pro. I can say it is very good and accurate, but the price is so high that you would have to have a nice income to invest on it.

    Spyder System okay, but...

Spyder is a good system to begin with LCD-profiling but the Software is lame!
I used Spyder3 Express with BasICColor Display 5.2.0 (testversion)

with original software I get a blue stiched image, with BasICColor Display my booth LCD are at the same kelvin and colorintensity! everything is fine.

The print technician uses X-rite for the monitors where ! work about once a month but sitting next to a window with constantly changing light conditions makes it fairly useless.

At work we have an xrite that calibrates all wrong, in all fairness its an old model, I however got a datacolor box with everything included (calibration cube, printer calibration etc) cheap off ebay, it came with an older version of the software that you could upgrade free by mailing the company,

very happy with my purchase ! :)

Any recent system (think i1 Display Pro / Spyder4) should be great.

Older colorimeters - not so much, especially for LED monitors.

I would recommend i1display pro with dispcalgui, it is currently one of the best instruments out there short of spending on basiccolor discus

    Os X Mavericks

I've been having trouble with my monitor since I updated to Mavericks.
Every color seems burned out and can't seem to find any solutions around.

Does color management software fix this? Has anyone else been having trouble with this?

I used the data color (v4) solution, i'm happy ... but I used this for photography post-traitement only.

I also recommend the i1Display Pro colorimeter. The i1Pro spectrophotometer is not really the best choice in that case - low stability in dark measurements and changes in readings when heating up on the panel. The i1Pro 2 has been improved, so if you also need to measure prints, you could go for that.
But for displays and projectors only go for the the i1Display Pro.

I have been using Spyder 3 for 5 years, but lately it became useless since result after calibrating gets worse then before. SO I am using my old calibration setup and I am looking for a new device, probably from X-rite.

I use the i1 Display Pro and I've found it really good for my needs. I don't use the room ambience detection thing on it though...I have read in a few places it's a bit useless.

I'm using Spyder 3 Pro (software version 4.0.7) on Apple Cinema 20 Display with good results, but I cannot get it to calibrate 2011 iMacs and 2011 MacBook Pros (13 and 15) reliably. Could be it has something to do with latter being LED displays (with glossy surface). I just checked comparison of Spyder 3 and 4 on the datacolor website and it states that Spyder 4:
Recognizes the type of monitor panel (CRT, LCD, white LED, RGB LED, CCFL, normal & wide gamut, IPS-, MVA-, PVA-, TN panels)
I guess it's time for upgrade.
