    Help wil HP Designjet 5500PS

    Hi,

I've recently acquired a used Designjet 5500PS, and am using the UV inks. My hope is to print large format photographs for display or sale. Currently I am trying out HP's quick dry universal glossy photo paper.

My problem is that even when I set the printer options to Max Quality 1200x600 dpi, the image is very pointilized. If I print swatches of color, I don't get a continuous t, but rather a speckled effect. If you look at the print from 3 feet away then it looks fine, but up close it is quite obvious.

Is there any adjustment I can make, either physically to the printer, or through software that will smooth out the speckles?

    Thanks for your help!

What rip are you using? (Any) It sounds like you are printing directly without a rip.

Sounds strange. I would check the resolution of the art. The only time I have seen something like this was when the texture was in the art. Like some scanned a printed piece. You can sometimes see the dot pattern.

I'm running the same system as you but have never had an issue like that.

Can you post a pic of the printout.

Thanks for the input. I'm going to try changing the black print head tonight and see if that helps at all. If it doesn't then I'll take a closeup of the printed result and post it here. Appreciate the help :-)

The HP 5000 will tel you if a printhead is failing. DId you get an error? Try running the Quality sample print under the utilities menu. It will show you if any heads are missing.
