    Designjet 500 (regular , not PS , nor HPL2)

    Hi folks

I got here looking for info about color management on the internet.
Have done A LOT of reading and downloaded A LOT of different software for color management.

I am a photographer , recently got a second hand HP Designjet 500 and it is working 100% OK. Only problem I have is color management .
Generally speaking it does exactly what I need and I am very satisfied with it BUT
just found out that these printers don´t use black ink to print black ; instead they make black out of the other three colors so it has a greenish tone.

This is my only problem with it because I am mostly working on B&W photography.

I have tried also A LOT of different papers for it (as I really don´t like the roll photo paper) Found out that some like the canvas and water color paper work fine as well as another papers made in South America called Linen-Marble.

They produce more accurate colors than regular photo paper as long as set up in the printer as "Bright white inkjet paper"

Still give a little bit gamut problem and greenish problem is barely noticeable but still there.

Got Wasatch soft rip because it says Designjet 500 is compatible but when send the job to the printer I got warning error (61:05 I think , not remember now) But I searched and it says it is a communication problem (mostly the RIP sends a PS file that the printer can´t recognize)

Since what I need is just to adjust colors ...

Is there any color profile out there?

Anybody can assist some advice please?

Thank you very very much to you all.

For Designjet 500 I advise to apply -
Efi ColorProofXF 4 or for one task Onyx Production House since the version 7.0.6

The driver and ICC profiles complete with programs.
Are checked up with Designjet 500. Work perfectly.

    hp 500 inks

For mat media hp Designjet 500 use CMYK
for glossy media hp Designjet 500 use CMY
without proper calibration you are lost.
i recommend Fiery XF or ColorproofXF.
dont try anything without spectrophotometer ( i1 is ok)

Hi guys , thank you very much for reply.

I got here because I NEED to learn to print. No big jobs , I am a photographer , so it is only for that. Turned out to be that printing is way more complex than what I was expecting and have been months reading and trying and trying... super frustrating.
I just moved here (China) and don´t have a credit card.
I read you have the EFI server on the full software section , but seems I will have no access.
Can U help me with this one , please? I have tons of software for share (if it is possible ).
I swear I am going crazy with this. Need to make the HP500 print fare accurate colors and not greenish.

Any help will be most appreciated.

    Thank you very much!

    wasatch curves

you could try to change the curves in wasatch.
upping the magenta curve or move the cyan and yellow a bit down. try it with a 25-50-75 gray patch.

Thank you , the problem is that seems DJ500 do not understand the RIP´s language and I don´t know why.
Wasatch says it is supported , but when I send the file printer says error processing the job , flushing the rest of the job.
    Honestly have no clue why.
    Thanx!

Try the latest version of HP ePrint & Share, 1.4.
To make this application work you need to have the printer connected to
    the network, not USB.

Alternatively, print with the existing driver, set the driver to sRGB and
change the application to use the printer color management, ie. in
Acrobat, print - advanced - let the printer decide colors.

I also print using a Colorgate rip. I always load media in the printer
as "PLAIN PAPER", followed by a color calibration on the printer control panel.
The printer then measures the loaded media, whatever it is, and adapt
    the correct linearisation to it.

The PLAIN PAPER setting makes the printer use CMYK. Most other
media settings only print with CMY.

Most RIP's are sending HPGL2/RTL data to this printer, except Colorgate, which
    sends plain PCL raster (PCL3GUI).
To be able to use HPGL2 you need an optional HPGL2 card inserted in the back
of the printer. Only PCL data is supported without the card.
