    Super basic question

there's a lot going on packaging-wise in this forum, and it's all new to me, so I'd like to ask what kind of machinery is involved in the creation of packaging ?

To do just a few units, is a good vinyl cutter enough if you are working with a thin material ?

Check out Esko Kongsberg. Esko seems to have a monopoly in this field.

A big questions... Are you talking packaging sample creation or production runs? What type of packaging? Corrugated/Folding Carton/Bags?

What do you mean by the creation?

do you mean before or after the printed stage? or as a whole.

I use to run a sample maker at work (zund p700) ancient bit of kit, but it was perfect for like up to 100 off projects

A sample maker is basically a machine that can cut shapes out of a substrate without the need for creating die's, usually using a digital file called a dieline or Cutter profile as we called it ( a line drawing) Then using some software you assign the lines to be a cut or a crease etc...

more advanced systems assign the lines automatically if you have the file set up correctly.
They save money and time as less make ready is needed.

Now you can even get camera registration to register your cutter profile e.g you throw the sheet on the sample maker and the cameras work out where you've put it cutting it out perfectly. I come from a time where each sheet had to be hand layed in the same position every time.

They usually use some kind of Knife or Laser to cut the shapes out ( is there anymore?)

    does any of that help?
