I have used Illustrator for years - China sends me the dieline, I fit it in - and they send working copies which we then finalize. Going to have to check out ArtiosCAD though - didn't really think there were other solutions!

80% of the packaging industry uses ArtiosCAD as there design software.
comparing ArtiosCad to Cimex is like comparing a ferrari to a skoda. Not saying skoda's a bad. it's just not a good comparison.

The only packages that seems anywhere near as good as artioscad are Impact designer professional and engview package designer.

Impact designer professional comes with some very good 3D capabilities which are better in some incidences. Trueview seems to offer a more photo realistic visuals, it can also do embossing, foil blocking, braille, acetate windows on boxes and 3d products out of the box something that artioscad doesn't. You need studio or
    visualiser for that.

Note that impact is a lot cheaper as well (£4500). I'm considering buying impact as the designer package doesn't make you buy unnecessary modules that a designer won't require like die making etc... Well worth checking it out on there website.

I trailed engview a few weeks back and do find myself working in a very unproductive work flow that takes 2 minutes in artioscad. The only one I'm left to try is Rules by alphacorr which seems very promising. As speaking to the rep the other day ZUND is investing heavily in there 3D features which is good to know. Note : the only way you can get a demo is by email, and you need to do a shared demo with a rep first. Which I'm still to do.

There's plenty of others I don't class cimex within them. It is one of the cheapest though out there so you get what you pay for really.

hope this helps any questions just ask.

It seems like I need to look into Artios. I've been just using illustrator, but anything to make it easier is great in my book!

To design and make changes to the sketches, Adobe Illustrator, and to end prepress: Artpro is best.
