    Forum Anonymity from Google

    Hi,

Is there any way we can protect ourselves from being tracked by Google?
If you type in any title/software name, within the top 5 hits will be here!

    Cheers

You raise a very good point. whenever I search for any prepress related items, I am always seeing this forum in the google results.

There are options within the software to limit the public access to both guests and web crawlers. Just making the site visible to registered users only may do all that is needed.

On alternative forum software (I used to administer & IT Support a forum running SMF) these options are easily enabled. I would suspect that vBulletin, being a more sophisticated application than SMF, would also have these option. I have not check though so I could be wrong.

Also maybe the Administration team are looking to obtain the maximum exposure on the web. If this is the case, then I would expect this forum to have a short shelf life, before some in a law enforcement establishment starts to take an active interest, if they have not already.

I believe the SimonCharlie has raised a very valid point and that should be given some serious consideration to resolve.

    Just my 2p worth

Wouldn't a simple robots.txt in the root prevent google from spidering it?

Though I must admit I found this forum through Googling for something :P

I myself has asked the same question. I think this is a nice forum and would like to see it around for a long time. It is good you have opened the topic as some of us has been numb about it.
