I can see the logic from both sides of the argument about all the requirements by the Owners and the members. Let me try to weigh them up:
*Must be Registered/Active for longer than month,
*Must have a made at least 20 useful, informative and non-flooding posts.
*Must post Regularly.
It is relatively hard to make 20 useful posts that are informative, helpful and valid to the forum especially when the main areas are locked until meeting the conditions above. e.g. Posting new software etc.
It is relatively easy to contribute 20 posts by being helpful in other threads..i.e.... answering questions about software, helping members who have a problem with certain codes, software or machinery etc. Posts should not just be made up of or words like "Great!" or "Thanks" or "Link Dead" etc.
This is generally to deter new members from flooding the site with useless threads just to enable them to access the Resource Section by boosting their postcount and also to encourage new members to remain active.
*You must be able to share printing related software/plugins/patches/tutorials etc.
*The compressed files must be your own work and include a password "printroot.com"
How are we able to post the software and share any files when access to the resource section is blocked?
Every forum requires regular activity from members, this helps deter leechers. Having password protected files helps advertise the forum and also shows a small amount of dedication to the site. It also shows that the member who posted it has taken the time to check the file himself and not just copy/pasted the content from another site.
Another reason may also to reduce any auto-posters that havent read the rules.
* Donate to support PrintRoot
$50 seems excessive.......
Even after donating, some are unable to access restricted areas.
By donating you are helping with the running costs of keeping the site alive. There is no set amount that you have to donate... many forums rely on member donations for support but this option is not compulsory (It will allow you to access the restricted areas more quickly though!) If you go to the Donate page you will see a drop-down box with amounts from $50-$99999.... this is the standard for vBulletin software.... you can also click on the "Custom" donation which will allow you to enter your own amount!
I hope this helps clarify the matter a little for you all, but it is only my personal view....
I can see both sides and I do agree with some of you that it is frustrating but what would we all prefer?... a site full of spam and useless threads or a site where its members are active, constantly supplying new information and top software and help?.... I know which I would prefer!
