I can see the logic from both sides of the argument about all the requirements by the Owners and the members. Let me try to weigh them up:

    Conditions:

    1.
*Must be Registered/Active for longer than month,
*Must have a made at least 20 useful, informative and non-flooding posts.
    *Must post Regularly.

    Members View:
It is relatively hard to make 20 useful posts that are informative, helpful and valid to the forum especially when the main areas are locked until meeting the conditions above. e.g. Posting new software etc.

    Forums View:
It is relatively easy to contribute 20 posts by being helpful in other threads..i.e.... answering questions about software, helping members who have a problem with certain codes, software or machinery etc. Posts should not just be made up of or words like "Great!" or "Thanks" or "Link Dead" etc.
This is generally to deter new members from flooding the site with useless threads just to enable them to access the Resource Section by boosting their postcount and also to encourage new members to remain active.

    or 2.
*You must be able to share printing related software/plugins/patches/tutorials etc.
*The compressed files must be your own work and include a password "printroot.com"

    Members View:
How are we able to post the software and share any files when access to the resource section is blocked?

    Forums View:
Every forum requires regular activity from members, this helps deter leechers. Having password protected files helps advertise the forum and also shows a small amount of dedication to the site. It also shows that the member who posted it has taken the time to check the file himself and not just copy/pasted the content from another site.
Another reason may also to reduce any auto-posters that havent read the rules.

    or 3.
    * Donate to support PrintRoot

    Members View:
    $50 seems excessive.......
Even after donating, some are unable to access restricted areas.

    Forums View:
By donating you are helping with the running costs of keeping the site alive. There is no set amount that you have to donate... many forums rely on member donations for support but this option is not compulsory (It will allow you to access the restricted areas more quickly though!) If you go to the Donate page you will see a drop-down box with amounts from $50-$99999.... this is the standard for vBulletin software.... you can also click on the "Custom" donation which will allow you to enter your own amount!

I hope this helps clarify the matter a little for you all, but it is only my personal view....
I can see both sides and I do agree with some of you that it is frustrating but what would we all prefer?... a site full of spam and useless threads or a site where its members are active, constantly supplying new information and top software and help?.... I know which I would prefer!

If you click on custom for the donation amount, then type in $20, you get a reply saying minimum donation $50. what a rip off

I didnt actually try to donate.... but I agree... $50 is a lot !!! If Im being hst, I would never pay any forum a set amount as a donation.... a donation is a free willed gesture... not a condition!.

Very very true mate. I know how hard it is to maintain a site, but I think if a minimum was set (say, $10), it might encourage more members to contribute. Anything over that $10 minimum is then a bonus for the site owners. In everyday commerce this rule more or less applies too.... sell a product for say $10 and get rid of 100 pieces... or sell it for $50 and sell myabe only 2-3 pieces. Basic math. I couldnt afford to contribute $50 even if I wanted to.

Thats just it.... the admin doesnt seem to be around, unless he has a dupe account too, the mods are rarely here and dont even reply to any PM's...... what a way to run a site!

Its weird isnt it mate... I got over 30 posts and still have no access... Im beginning to think this site is a bit of a black spot!. No-staff is answering my PM's even though that member of staff was online at the time. If I find a better forum, I will drop back in and let you all know instead of being messed around here. I came here to post some tuts and apps, but it seems the management are bigger and better than all of us and couldnt care less!... looks like they are only in it for the m o n e y!... Thats not what sharing is about .... unless the admin are just cash-whores too like on many other sites that are going down the drain! Im not saying they are... but when you dont see any staff online to give advice, answer PM,s , make any new threads relating to site updates etc... it does make you wonder whether this site is worth being a member of!!!

Wish I would have read this thread before donating, haha.

I have no idea where the staff and admins are located, but its early morning where I live. I just hope I can get access by the end of the day today. I replied to the auto-admin-message sent to me when I clicked the donate button.

I'll keep you all posted on how long it takes...
